The End of Leadership

Some like to call current movements in the Middle East liberalistic movements, but I think we should wait more. Of course these movements gladden me, too. I’m glad because it ends a point in the place of Turkey in the region.

During some years ago Turkey had been able to introduce itself as a regional power which has resisted against the West. I think that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) was trying to recreate the role of Ottoman Empire in the middle east, among Islamic countries except Iran.

The PM of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, left dialog with Shimon Peres at Davos, as I think Islam orders its followers to talk with the others, even the Jewish and Erdogan knows it better than me. In fact, recreating a new role made Erdogan to leave the session at Davos. He wanted to tell to the Moslems and even the Islamic fundamentalists that this Turkey is something else.

Although Erdogan could achieve to power by democracy, but he and his party were defending existing order. In a democratic Middle East, Turkey has a low chance for leadership. A democratic Egypt is more worthy than Turkey for leadership.
